A soldier serving in Operation Lafiya Dole has been condemned to death by a General Court Marital (GOC) sitting in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The soldier, Lance Corporal John Godwin was sentenced to death for slaughtering five saved regular civilians in the Yamteke territory of Borno State.
Some different officers were likewise imprisoned by the court for different offenses going from murder to unlawful ownership of guns and ammo.

Corporal John Godwin was accused of murder, culpable under Area 106 (an) of Military Acts (Top A20), Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004.
The 7 Division's representative, Lieutenant Colonel Kingsley Samuel, while affirming the sentence stated, "The regular civilians were prior safeguarded by troops of Godwin's force and were taken for examination at the time he shot and killed five of them.

"Another soldier, Sergeant Innocent Ototo, was condemned to life detainment for homicide in the wake of tormenting and executing a 13-year-old kid who he said stole his telephone.
"The occurrence occurred at Zamanbari area of Maiduguri in Borno State."
